MALS seminars are small, interdisciplinary courses designed to challenge assumptions and deepen understanding across a wide range of topics. Open to students in the Master of Arts in Liberal Studies program, each seminar brings together diverse perspectives in an intimate, discussion-based setting.

Here’s what’s coming up this fall:

MLS 501-001:🧠 Ethical, Legal, and Social Implications of Human Enhancement Technologies

Dr. Veljko Dubljević

Location: Withers Hall | Mondays & Wednesdays, 6–7:15 PM

Explore the ethics of enhancement—from mood and memory to human-machine interfaces. Through case studies, this course dives into questions of safety, fairness, authenticity, and the societal impact of emerging technologies.

MLS 501-002:🎨 War and the Arts

Location: Winston Hall | Tuesdays, 6–8:45 PM

How do artists process war? This course looks at artistic responses to conflict from WWI to today, using works of fiction, film, and television to examine how creativity helps people cope with trauma, loss, and the complexities of conflict.
